According to the Code of Medical Ethics the consent is part of the informative process (see right to information about his or her health) regulated by article 30 of the Code and does not replace it. The physician should provide to the patient the most suitable information about the diagnosis, the prognosis, and the eventual diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives and about the foreseen consequences of the realized choices. The physician should take into account the knowledge of the patient, in order for the patient to understand the proposed diagnostic-therapeutic alternatives.
