A distinction can be made between ‘special’ (specific) and ‘split’ (scattered) patient rights laws. A ‘special’ law contains all (or at least the most commonly accepted) general patient rights whereas in case of ‘split’ legislation the general patient rights are embedded in different pieces of law.
